   Corbett National Park

If you are planning to take a break in the foothills of the Himalayas and have decided to follow tiger trails and do some serious birding, the right place to visit is Corbett National Park.

Nestling in the foothills of the Himalayas , Corbett National Park has extremely varied topography and vegetation. This gives it a rich diversity of habitat and natural beauty. Flat valleys are interspersed with hilly ridges and the Park's rolling grasslands known as the 'Chaurs' provide visitors with an excellent view of the animals. The Ramganga River flows through the Park and little forest streams tumble through the ravines. While dense stands of Sal cloak the higher ridges, mixed deciduous forests are found throughout the park. There are over 110 varieties of trees, 51 species of shrubs and over 33 kinds of bamboo and grasses.

Corbett has a good tiger population. It was here that the "Project Tiger" was launched in 1973. Four species of deer - Hog deer, Sambhar, Spotted deer & Barking deer and other prey like wild boar, support the predators. Besides tiger, Corbett biosphere reserve is a haven for 50 mammals, 580 kinds of birds and 25 reptile species. The park has elephants, the Himalayan black bear in the higher elevations, sloth bear, variety of lesser cats and a large variety of avi-fauna.

Along the banks of the Ramganga are the fish-eating crocodiles ( gharial ) and the mugger or marsh crocodile. The river is rich in the Mahseer - although angling is not permitted inside the National Park. Best time to visit is from November to June.If you are looking for a visit with a difference to the Corbett National Park you must stay at Tiger Camp
